The Course One mile oval combination for thoroughbred and standardbred racing constructed of clay and sand mixture. There are two chutes for six furlong and 1 1/4 mile races. Distance from last turn to finish line is 1,050 feet and the distance from the finish line to the first turn is 330 feet. The track width is 80 feet in the frontstretch and the first turn and 70 feet in the backstretch and far turn. Construction began 1924 by Culflash & Edwards and completed by Colonel Bradley and Matt Winn with design fashioned after Churchill Downs.

By Car - From the Stevenson Expressway (Interstate 55)
Northbound exit Central Avenue; Southbound exit Cicero
Avenue. By Train- Metra's Burlington Northern runs
from Chicago's Union Station to Aurora, with a stop at Cicero
Avenue, eight blocks north of Hawthorne. Douglas B - O'Hare
elevated trains stop at Cicero Avenue and Cermak Road. By
Bus- CTA Bus 54 B offers service every day until midnight
north and south on Cicero Avenue. Pace Bus 305 serves the western
suburbs, and originates at Thatcher Road and North Avenue.
By Air- Chicago's Midway Airport is located 10 minutes from
